Box Score Breslin Scores 13 Points To Lead WC
ALLENTOWN, PA – Spencer Liddic scored a game-high 35 points and pulled down a contest-best 14 rebounds as host Muhlenberg College downed visiting Washington College, 82-60, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball action at Memorial Hall. The Mules are now 9-8 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Shoremen are now 5-12 overall and 4-6 respectively.
Washington took a 4-3 lead with 17:36 to go in the first half on a layup by junior forward Chris Olsen (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) before the Muhlenberg scored 13 straight points to take a 16-4 lead with 12:11 left on a layup by Liddic, who scored six of the 13 points during the run. WC freshman guard Donovan Womack (Newark, DE/Delcastle) ended the run with a three-pointer with 11:39 to go in the first. The Mules led 25-14 with 5:20 to go in the first half before going on a 10-3 run to grab their biggest lead of the half at 35-17 with 3:32 to go in the first on a Justin Greenstone layup. However, the Shoremen scored the final seven points of the first half to cut the Mules' lead to 35-24 at halftime. Junior guard Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) scored with three ticks left in the half to net the final points of the opening 20 minutes.
The Shoremen netted the first five points of the second half to cut the Muhlenberg lead to 35-29 with 18:33 to go in the second half on a trifecta by freshman forward Kevin Cunningham (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape). The 12-0 run spanned a total of 4:36 during the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. Muhlenberg led 38-32 with 16:31 to go in the contest when the rolled off eight straight points to take a 46-32 lead with 14:16 left on a pair of Liddic free throws. Muhlenberg would push its lead to 24 points, its largest of the game, at 60-36 with 8:41 to go on two free throws by Liddic. The Shoremen would get it to within 17 points on two occasions, but could not draw any closer.
Kevin Hargrove totaled a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win for Muhlenberg. Austin Curry added 11 points, while Evan Tozer handed out seven assists to lead all players.
Breslin scored 13 points, grabbed six boards and passed out three assists to lead the Shoremen and was one of three WC players to score in double figures. Junior guard Sal Schittino (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola Blakefield) netted 11 points, while junior guard Mark DeBoy (Baltimore, MD/Mount St. Joseph) added 10 points and tallied a game-best two steals.
The Mules shot 53% from the floor in the game, while holding the Shoremen to just 31% from the field in the contest. Muhlenberg held a commanding 48-34 edge in rebounds, while Washington totaled all eight steals in the game.
The Shoremen return to action on Wednesday evening with a 8:00 p.m. tip-off against visiting Ursinus in Centennial Conference action.
