Box Score Atkins Scores First Collegiate Goal in Loss
COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Host Ursinus College scored four unanswered goals in a 4-2 Centennial Conference women's soccer win over visiting Washington College tonight in Collegeville, PA.
The Shorewomen (2-10-1, 0-6-1) scored on their first shot of the game as sophomore midfielder/forward Heather Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) sent a cross from the right side to senior midfielder Gabby Devaud (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame), who found the back of the net at 8:21. The Bears (6-7-1, 3-4-1) evened the score at 25:35 when Monica Oliveto headed in a corner kick from Valerie Bedrock. Ursinus took a two-goal lead by scoring twice in 57 seconds late in the first half. The go-ahead goal came on an unassisted breakaway tally by Alexis Haug at 39:38, while the Bears' third goal was a 38-yard blast off the foot of Leah Shaw at 40:35.
Ursinus tacked on its fourth goal at 59:23 when Ama Achiaw scored on a breakaway. The Shorewomen cut the deficit to 4-2 at 70:30 when freshman forward/midfielder Marisa Atkins (Fenwick Island, DE/Indian River) scored her first collegiate goal on a shot from the right side, but could get no closer.
The Bears finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Franklin & Marshall.
