Box Score Reilly Scores Goal in Loss for Shorewomen
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Becky Willert scored two goals, including the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 6:24 remaining in the game, to keep fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall unbeaten in Centennial Conference play with a 2-1 win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
F&M, which also improved to 13-2 overall with the win, broke a scoreless tie with 13:15 remaining in the first half when Willert received a cross from Kimmy Fisher at the stroke line and fired in a goal. The Shorewomen held a 7-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners in the first half.
The score remained 1-0 until Washington senior midfielder Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored on a penalty stroke with 10:24 remaining in the second half, scoring on a low shot in the bottom right-hand corner of the goal. Willert's game winner was one of just five F&M shots in a second half controlled by the Shorewomen (9-6, 5-3 Centennial). Washington held a 10-5 advantage in shots and a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners over the final 35 minutes.
Avery Koep made seven saves in the win for the Diplomats, while sophomore goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made four in the loss for Washington.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
