Manion Scores Twice in Washington's Sixth Straight Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College scored four times in the first half en route to a 5-1 Centennial Conference field hockey win over visiting Muhlenberg this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen (7-4, 4-1 Centennial) have won six consecutive games, their longest winning streak since winning eight in a row during the 2008 season.

Washington got on the board early as junior midfielder Hilary Manion (Trappe, PA/Archbishop Carroll) swept a shot in off a feed from junior defender Erin Lewns (Fallston, MD/North Harford) just 3:21 into the contest. Senior midfielder Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored Washington's second goal of the game with 19:07 left in the first half, ripping in a second-chance shot after her previous shop was kicked back out into the field of play by Muhlenberg goalkeeper Kristen Dornenburg. Senior attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) increased the lead to 3-0 with 26:46 left in the half, first having a breakaway shot stopped by Dornenburg far up in the circle, but quickly gathering the ball again and shooting past Dornenburg for the goal. The lead grew to four goals before the break as Manion scored again, blasting in a shot off a nice feed from Reilly with 1:51 left in the first.

Junior attack Gabby Tarbert (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) scored the Shorewomen's fifth goal just 2:14 into the second half when she redirected in a ball sent by freshman attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, MD/Glenelg Country School). Muhlenberg (4-7, 2-4) finally got on the board with 3:39 remaining when Kayleigh Thies scored off an assist from Renee Norton on a penalty corner.

Sophomore goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made nine saves over the first 64 moutes for Washington before freshman goalkeeper Britt Barr (Sykesville, MD/Century) came in to play the rest of the game and gave up the Muhlenberg goal. Dornenburg made 13 saves for Muhlenberg in the loss.

Washington held a 21-16 advantage in shots in the game, while Muhlenberg had a 13-9 edge in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Mary Washington.
