Box Score Duffy Scores in Loss for Shoremen
GETTYSBURG, PA -- Eric Hynes scored three goals to lead host Gettysburg College to a 4-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over visiting Washington College this afternoon.
The Bullets (4-3, 2-0 Centennial) got on the board just 5:13 into the game when Hynes gathered a loose ball that went off a Washington defender and fired it into the goal.
Gettysburg took the 1-0 lead into halftime and tacked on its second goal at 51:44 when Andrew McLane received a pass at the top of the box, beat his defender, and scored on a low shot. The Shoremen (2-4-1, 0-2) trimmed the margin to one goal when junior defender Ryan Duffy (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) scored on a free kick from 19 yards out at 59:40, but the Bullets quickly responded with a goal by Hynes off an assist from Tyler Shaffer at 61:13 to push the lead back to two. Hynes scored his third goal of the afternoon off a pass out of the backfield from Kyle DeBlois at 63:32.
Gettysburg held a 25-5 advantage in shots in the game. Connor Darrell made two saves in goal for the Bullets, while senior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made six for the Shoremen.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
