Box Score Senior Scores Game-Winner with 3:03 Left
GETTYSBURG, PA -- Senior midfielder Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) converted a penalty stroke with 3:03 remaining in the game to give visiting Washington College a 2-1 Centennial Conference field hockey win over host Gettysburg this afternoon on Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Bullets fell to 3-3 and 1-2 with the loss.
The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead just 2:54 into the game as freshman attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, MD/Glenelg Country School) scored from the right post. Sarah Cole evened the for the Bullets with a goal with 15:36 remaining in the first half.
The Bullets nearly pulled ahead with 21:24 remaining in the second half, but Washington senior defender Emily Broomell (East Petersburg, PA/Lancaster Christian) made a defensive save on a shot by Cole. Reilly's game-winning penalty stroke proved to be the final shot of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made seven saves in the win for the Shorewomen. Megan Feeg made nine saves for Gettysburg. The Bullets held an 18-15 advantage in shots in the game.
The victory was Washington's third straight over Gettysburg, marking the Shorewomen's longest-ever winning streak in the series. The Bullets have won 15 of the 22 all-time meetings between the two teams.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Wesley.
