Manion Tallies Game-Winner for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior midfielder Hilary Manion (Trappe, PA/Archbishop Carroll) scored the game-winning goal 4:18 into overtime to lift host Washington College to a 3-2 win over visiting Ursinus in a Centennial Conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.  The win was the first-ever for the Shorewomen (9-6, 5-2 Centennial) over the Bears (7-7, 4-4) in 13 all-time meetings.

The Shorewomen scored 6:30 into the game when junior midfielder/defender Heather Noto (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamroneck) redirected in a ball from sophomore attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, MD/Glenelg Country School). Ursinus evened things up 2:23 later when Rachel Pandl scored off an assist from Alex Shafi. Washington retook the lead 2:01 after that when sophomore midfielder/defender Kate Duggan (Huntingdon VAlley, PA/Academy of the New Church) scored a rebound of her own shot. The score remained 2-1 throughout the rest of the opening half as the Shorewomen held a 14-4 advantage in shots in the period.

The Shorewomen held the Bears without a shot for a span of 39:17 spanning both halves. Ursinus managed to find the equalizer with 2:02 remaining in regulation when Megan Keenan blasted in a loose ball.

Manion's game-winner came on a third effort after she had two shots saved by Danielle DiSpirito

Washington finished with a 25-8 advantage in shots and a 13-8 edge in penalty corners in the win. Junior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made five saves in the win, while DiSpirito made 13 in the loss.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at nationally-ranked Franklin & Marshall.
