#16 Fords Stop Shorewomen, 4-0

HAVERFORD, PA -- Sixteenth-ranked host Haverford College defeated visiting Washington College, 4-0, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game tonight in Haverford, PA. The Fords improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 9-8 and 5-4 with the loss. 

The Fords got on the board quickly as Bridget Gibbons scored off an assist from Sarah Waldis jus 4:53 into the game. Haverford increased its lead to 2-0 with 22:34 remaining in the first half when Catherine Aronowitz scored off an assist from Mary Hobbs. The score remained 2-0 the rest of the half.  Each team recorded seven shots over the first 35 minutes of play. 

The Fords tacked on their third goal with 32:30 remaining in the second half when Christie Quake scored off a Gibbons assist during a penalty corner and added their fourth 2:59 later when Hobbs scored her 11th goal of the season. Haverford held a 6-2 edge in shots in the second half.

The Fords also maintained a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners in the game. 

Junior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made five saves and allowed all four goals for the Shorewomen, playing the first 42:55. Sydney Hyder played the first 56:08 in goal for Haverford and made two saves. 

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their regular-season finale, a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against McDaniel.
