Box Score Holocker Scores for Shorewomen in Season Finale
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting McDaniel College topped host Washington College, 2-1, in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The game was the season finale for both the victorious Green Terror (7-10-1, 2-7-1 Centennial) and the Shorewomen (6-9-1, 2-7-1).
McDaniel scored on its first shot of the game when Erica Diffendal scored from 35 yards out at 13:15. The Green Terror took advantage of a defensive misplay for their second goal as Meghan Sturgill scored at 27:08 after a Washington defender misplayed the ball in the middle of the box and Sturgill found herself wide open with the ball.
The score stayed 2-0 in favor of McDaniel until the 87:53 mark when Washington freshman forward/midfielder Bailey Howard (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) sent a throw-in to junior midfielder/forward Heather Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie), who played a touch pass to sophomore defender Kelley Holocker (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's Count). Holocker blasted a goal from inside the box to break up the shutout.
McDaniel finished the game with a 16-11 advantage in shots. Washington held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Jan Woolley made seven saves for the Green Terror, while sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney (Newark, DE/Newark) made four stops for the Shorewomen.
