Fords Shoot Past Shoremen, 88-75

Cunningham Scores Career-High 18 Points in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Haverford College shot 60% from the field and got 30 points and 18 rebounds from Brett Cohen as the Fords snapped host Washington College's five-game win streak with an 88-75 Centennial Conference victory tonight inside Cain Athletic Center.

Haverford (7-13, 5-8 Centennial) finished the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 49-44 lead into the intermission. The Fords shot 62% from the field in the first half, while the Shoremen (13-7, 9-4) shot 52% from the field in the first period.

Washington rallied to tie the score early in the second half, but the Fords responded and held a 63-57 lead before the Shoremen scored seven straight points to take their only lead of the half on a fast-break lay-up by senior center Max Finch (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) with 12:45 remaining, putting Washington ahead, 64-63. Haverford answered with the next six points, building a 69-64 advantage on a Gibby Graves lay-up with 9:54 remaining. The Fords later used a six-point run to push their lead to 81-70 on a Cohen lay-up with 4:03 on the clock.  Haverford led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

Cohen shot 14-for-18 from the floor en route to his 30 points and six of his 18 rebounds were on the offensive end. He also blocked three shots in the win. Cam Baker added 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 shooting from the foul line to go along with seven boards and four steals. Bo Friddell chipped in 10 points and six boards, while Ian Goldberg tallied 15 points and four assists.

Sophomore forward Kevin Cunningham (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) paced the Shoremen with a career-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-for-6 shooting from the charity stripe. Senior guard Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) added 15 points to increase his career total to 1,367 - moving from 11th to eighth on the Shoremen's all-time scoring list. Senior forward Adam Naymick (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) and senior forward Chris Olsen (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) scored 10 points a piece.

Haverford finished the game 34-for-57 from the field, scoring 56 points in the paint, 17 second-chance points, and 14 fast-break points.  The Fords also held a 39-28 advantage on the boards.  Washington shot 36% from the field in the second half to end up at 44% (27-of-62) for the game.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Dickinson.
