Box Score Geho, M. Wilfong Score in Loss for Shoremen
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Parker Bay scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute as visiting Goucher College defeated host Washington College, 3-2, in double overtime in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
The first-half scoring was provided by a pair of penalty kicks within a two-minute span. Washington senior defender Justin Geho (Westminster, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) gave the Shoremen (1-2) a brief 1-0 lead at 27:08 with his penalty-kick goal, but Nate Margolis converted a penalty kick for Goucher (1-2-1) at 28:46 to even the score. The Shoremen held a 7-6 advantage in shots in the first half.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Wilfong (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) gave the Shoremen a 2-1 lead when he chipped in a loose ball over the head of Goucher goalkeeper Ethan DeBandi at 68:54. The Gophers evened the scored on a transition goal by Bay off a pass ahead from Margolis at 77:47.
Washington held a 5-1 advantage in shots in the first overtime as the game remained knotted at 2-2. The Shoremen had two shots in the second overtime, but the Gophers won the game on their first as Gray scored off a cross in transition from Margolis at 104:54.
Washington held a 24-17 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks in the game. DeBandi made six saves for Goucher, while senior goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made five for the Shoremen.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 4:00 p.m. game at Dickinson.
