Box Score Lewns Scores Shorewomen's Goal in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Gettysburg College topped host Washington College, 3-1, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Bullets improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-4 and 2-1 with the loss.
Liz Baron gave the Bullets an early 1-0 lead when she scored on a rebound just 1:49 into the contest. Baron scored her second goal of the day off a penalty corner from Hayward Sawers with 11:01 remaining in the first half. The Bullets held a 10-7 advantage in shots in the first half.
Erica Barbuto scored Gettysburg's third goal with 9:59 to play in the game, lifting in a shot off a pass from Baron during a penalty corner. Washington College senior defender Erin Lewns (Fallston, MD/North Harford) scored the Shorewomen's goal on a penalty stroke with no time remaining after Gettysburg was called for a foul during a penalty corner.
The Shorewomen finished the game with a 17-15 advantage in shots, but the Bullets had a 13-10 edge in penalty corners.
Megan Feeg made 10 saves in the win for Gettysburg, while junior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made eight stops in the loss for Washington.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Stevenson.
