Shorewomen Split Pair at Buttermaker Tournament

Washington College Falls to Neumann, Beats Centenary

ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second and final day of the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College. The Shorewomen (3-6) opened the day with a 25-10, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22 loss to Neumann, but bounced back with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-22, win over Centenary (NJ) in their final match of the tournament.

In the Shorewomen's first match of the day, Neumann rolled to a 25-10 win in the first set before pulling out a 25-21 win in set two. In the third set, the Shorewomen trailed, 11-6, before they went on a 13-2 run to take a 19-13 lead. Washington closed the set with a 6-1 run to post a 25-16 win and stay in the match. In the fourth set, Neumann held a 24-19 lead and held off a late mini-rally by the Shorewomen to post a 25-22 win and take the match.

Natalie George tallied 11 kills in the win for the Knights, while Katelin Kulentz had 10 kills, 13 digs, and four aces. Kelsey D'Imperio added nine kills and four blocks, while Cecily Scavicchio had a double-double with 11 digs and 19 assists. Freshman outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, MD/River Hill) turned in 11 kills and nine digs for the Shorewomen, while junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) had a double-double of 24 assists and 12 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) had 14 digs. Freshman middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and senior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) had six blocks each, establishing a career high for Daunoras and tying one for Lee. Jjunior right-side hitter Emily Hoyle (Santa Rita, Guam/Guam) had five blocks, also a career high, and six kills. 

In their final match of the tournament, the Shorewomen came out hot against Centenary, winning the first set, 25-6. Washington committed no attacking errors in the first set against 12 kills in 25 attempts. Centenary had just two kills in the set; the Cyclones' four other points all came off Washington service errors. The Shorewomen added a 25-16 win in set two and pulled out a 25-22 win in set three. 

The Shorewomen hit .329 as a team in the win, recording 36 kills against 10 errors in 79 attempts. White narrowly missed a triple-double with 24 assists, 12 digs, eight kills, and four aces. Daunoras added a career-best eight kills and four blocks, while Jenny Lee had seven kills and three blocks. Shantise Parker had 13 digs for the Cyclones.

Kristin Lee represented the Shorewomen on the All-Tournament Team.

The Shorewomen return to action one week from today when they will play in a quad match against Lancaster Bible, Ohio Christian, and host Catholic beginning at 11:00 a.m.
