Box Score Davis Scores First Collegiate Goal; O'Connell Also Scores
CARLISLE, Pa. – Host Dickinson raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-2 victory over visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference field hockey action at Biddle Field. The Red Devils are now 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 3-7 and 2-3 respectively.
Dickinson broke the scoreless tie at the 21:07 mark when Caroline Karwel assisted on Catherine Perlmutter game opening goal. The Red Devils scored twice in 74 seconds to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Alexandra Becker made it 2-0 with Maddie Groves recording the helper at 29:32 and Perlmutter assisted on Taylor Meehan's score at 30:46 to give the hosts a three-goal cushion.
The Shorewomen got onto the board 13:43 into the second half when freshman midfielder Elizabeth Davis (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) scored her first collegiate goal off of a penalty corner with the assist going to senior defender Heather Noto (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) to cut the hosts' lead to 3-1. Just 65 seconds later Erica Marshall made it 4-1 for the Red Devils with Groves getting her game-best second assist of the game at 49:48. Tara Black made it 5-1 with 11:09 remaining on a Natalie Polk helper. O'Connell completed the scoring with 1:42 left on an unassisted tally.
Dickinson outshot Washington 31-16 and held a 15-9 advantage in penalty corners. In goal, Katy Schlechtweg made five saves for Dickinson, while senior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, Md./Southern) turned away a season-high 14 shots. Each team had a defensive save with Fallon Winters making a defensive save for the hosts and sophomore defender Emily Eline (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) making the defensive save for the guests.
The Shorewomen return to action on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at #19 Ursinus in Centennial Conference action.
