O'Connell Forces Overtime with Goal in Final Minute

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Davis (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke with 4:35 remaining in the second overtime to lift the visiting Washington College field hockey team to a 3-2 Centennial Conference win over host McDaniel this afternoon in Westminster, Md. Junior attack Jackie O'Connell (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) scored in the final minute of regulation to tie the game for the Shorewomen, who improved to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in conference play with the win. The Green Terror fell to 8-8 and 3-6 with the loss.

O'Connell gave the Shorewomen an early lead, scoring off an assist from freshman defender Allison Remenapp (Woodbine, Md./Century) just 6:11 into the game. The assist was the first of Remenapp's collegiate career. McDaniel evened the score with 6:01 remaining in the first half on a tally by Sarah Meszler

McDaniel took the lead with 13:10 remaining in the game when Danielle DeColli scored off an assist from Sara Reynolds. O'Connell forced the overtime when she scored on a one-on-one with McDaniel goalkeeper Victoria Alexander with just 48 seconds remaining in regulation.

Despite a flurry of offensive activity in the first 15-minute overtime period, neither team could get the game-winning goal as Washington senior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, Md./Southern) made four saves in the period, while Alexander made two. Remenapp also sent a shot off the post with 5:44 left in the first overtime and Washington sophomore defender Emily Eline (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) made a defensive save on a shot by Lara Haab 1:06 earlier.

In the second overtime, Haley Vannostrand had a shot stopped by Harryman 3:17 into the period and Eline had a shot saved by Alexander with 5:57 remaining before Davis won the game with her penalty stroke.

The Green Terror held a 26-14 advantage in shots and had an 11-8 edge in penalty corners in the contest. Harryman made nine saves in the win, while Alexander had five in the loss for McDaniel.

The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with their season finale, a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Bryn Mawr.
