Box Score White Tallies 30th Career Double-Double For Shorewomen
BALTIMORE, Md. – Host Johns Hopkins got a match-best 18 kills from Meagan Donohoe as the host Blue Jays downed visiting Washington College, 3-0, (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) at Goldfarb Gym in the Centennial Conference volleyball opener for both teams on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial with the win, while the Shorewomen drop to 6-4 and 0-1 respectively.
In the first set, the two teams were tied 23-23 before the host Blue Jays captured the final two points on a pair of kills to take the opening set, 25-23. In the second set, Johns Hopkins led 6-5 before going on a 6-2 run to take a 12-7 lead and took control of the second set en route to the 25-20 win. In the third set, the Blue Jays led 17-16 before going on a match and set closing 8-2 run to take the last set 25-18.
Taylor Jansen and Carolyn Zin had 13 assists each to lead the Blue Jays and Anne Cohen had a team-best nine digs and served up a match-high three aces. Johns Hopkins had eight aces in the win.
Senior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) had a double-double for Washington with a match-best 15 assists and tied for match-high in digs with 10. It was her 30th career double-double in a Washington uniform. White also had two aces to lead the team. Freshman hitter Rachel Baker (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) tied White for match-high with 10 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) had nine kills to lead WC. Junior middle hitter Sarah Beresik (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) had three blocks to lead all players.
The Shorewomen have their home conference opening match versus Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
