Box Score McAuliffe, Noto Score Two Goals Each in Victory
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Junior attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and senior defender Heather Noto (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored two goals each as the Washington College field hockey team picked up its first victory of the season with a 5-0 shutout of Eastern Mennonite in a game played at Johns Hopkins University this afternoon.
McAuliffe opened the scoring with an unassisted goal exactly 10 minutes into the contest. Noto added Washington's second goal on a rebound with 16:51 left in the opening half. Freshman midfielder Alli Dudley (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) gave the Shorewomen (1-2) a 3-0 lead before halftime when she scored her first collegiate goal on a loose ball in the middle of the circle with 2:42 to play before the intermission.
Noto tallied her second goal of the game when she redirected in a blast by junior attack Kate Duggan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Academy of the New Church) with 24:22 remaining in the contest. McAuliffe completed the scoring when she scored on a rebound of her own shot with 16:40 left on the clock.
The Shorewomen outshot the Royals (0-3), 31-9, and had 23 penalty corners to the Royals' five. Senior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, Md./Southern) made six saves in the shutout, while Mary Beth Danaher made 16 saves for Eastern Mennonite.
The Shorewomen will play another neutral site game at Johns Hopkins tomorrow when they take on Denison at 11:00 a.m.
