Remenapp Scores in Loss for Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Lauren Jordan scored the game-winning goal with 4:54 remaining in the first overtime period to give visiting Muhlenberg College a 2-1 Centennial Conference field hockey win over host Washington College this afternoon. The Mules improved to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 10-2 and 3-2 with the loss.

Muhlenberg got on the board first with 25:24 left when Samantha Swire knocked in a ball near the near post after some confusion following a play when the ball had been tipped high in the air. The Shorewomen evened things up with 19:26 remaining when senior attack Jackie O'Connell (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) had a ball redirected into the cage by sophomore defender Allison Remenapp (Woodbine, Md./Century).

Neither team could find the back of the cage in the second half. The Shorewomen got the first shot on goal of the overtime period, but Muhlenberg goalkeeper Sierra Lenker turned away a shot by senior attack Grace Phillips (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) 2:56 into the extra session.  Jordan's goal came when she redirected in a blast by Heather Porrini after Porrini received a corner inset from Swire.

Washington held a 12-11 advantage in shots in the game, but Muhlenberg had a 23-12 advantage in penalty corners. Lenker made six saves for the Mules, while junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) made a pair of saves for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action a week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson.
