CRESSON, Pa. -- Juniata College shot 10-for-12 from the free-throw line over the final 68 seconds of the game to fend off Washington College, 68-59, in the consolation game of the Division III Hampton Inn Coaches vs. Cancer Classic this afternoon at Mount Aloysius College.

The Eagles (1-1) and Shoremen (0-2) were deadlocked at 33-33 at halftime, but Juniata held a 52-40 lead with 7:51 remaining in the game. Juniata later had a 58-50 advantage with 3:06 to play before the Shoremen scored the next six points to cut the lead to two on a free throw by junior forward Pat Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) with 1:17 remaining. Nate Ogle made the first of two free throws with 1:08 left, but Kyle Koehler grabbed the offensive rebound on Ogle's miss and was immediately fouled. Koehler sank both charity tosses to extend the lead to five points. After the Shoremen came up short on a pair of field-goal attempts on the other end, Seth Brewer made one of two free throws with 34 seconds to go to push the advantage to 62-56. Justin Fleming and Brewer combined to convert all six of the Eagles' remaining free throw attempts to seal the win.

Fleming led all players with 17 points for Juniata, while Koehler added 12 points and a team-best six rebounds and Brewer had 10 points and a game-best three steals for the Eagles. 

Junior forward Dave Knox (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) paced the Shoremen with 13 points and a game-best eight boards. Morgan and freshman guard Joey Shelton (Garnet Valley, Pa./Church Farm School) added 12 points each as Shelton also added six rebounds. Senior guard Sean Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) scored 10 points in the loss for Washington.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game at Wesley.
