Box Score

O'Connell and Remenapp Score For Washington

BALTIMORE, Md. – Host Johns Hopkins scored three times in the final 17:18 to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2014 Centennial Conference Field Hockey Tournament at  Homewood Field.  The Blue Jays, the tournament's fourth seed, will advance to play top seed Ursinus on Saturday improve to 10-8, while the Shorewomen end their season at 13-5.

Trailing 2-0, the Blue Jays would break onto the scoreboard at the 52:42 mark when Princess Sutherland scored on a rebound after Washington junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) stopped the initial shot by Kiara Duncan.  The Shorewomen almost restored the two-goal lead with 13:42 left, but the shot by sophomore Elizabeth Davis (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) rang off the post.  Johns Hopkins evened the game with 6:54 left when Alexa Lantiere scored on a rebound in the goal mouth after senior defender Meredith Andrews (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) notched a defensive save on the prior shot by Lindsey Adams.  The Blue Jays would complete the comeback with 2:16 left when off of a penalty corner.  Austin Davis' shot was blocked and the ball found Sutherland and from the left side she put the shot in short side for her second goal of the night and the winning tally.  The Shorewomen had a pair of penalty corners in the final 1:41 of the game, but could not register a shot to try to tie the game.

The Shorewomen broke onto the scoreboard 3:23 into the game when sophomore midfielder Alli Dudley (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) drove down the left side and weaved through the Blue Jays' defense and found senior attacker Jackie O'Connell (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) at the right post and O'Connell tapped in the Dudley pass through the goal mouth to put WC ahead 1-0.  The Shorewomen made it 2-0 off of a penalty corner.  Sophomore midfielder Allison Remenapp (Woodbine, Md./Century) took the corner and passed it to Elizabeth DavisElizabeth Davis then passed the ball to Remenapp who spun toward the endline and fired a shot from the right side that found its way past the shortside of Johns Hopkins goalkeeper Zoey Atabek 18:18 into the half.  The Shorewomen would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Hopkins outshot Washington 16-9, including 12-3 in the second half, while both teams had 10 penalty corners in the game.  In goal, Atabek made three saves for the Blue Jays, while Robertson stopped six shots for the Shorewomen.  Andrews made the lone defensive save in the game and it was her first career defensive save.

The 13 wins were the most for the Shorewomen in field hockey since the 2001 season when the squad went 13-8.

Tonight marked the last game in a Washington for seven players.  Six seniors, Andrews, O'Connell, defender Emily Bodmer (Laurel, Md./Elizabeth Seton), attacker Kate Duggan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Academy of the New Church), attacker Caitlain Krawczyk (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) and attacker Grace Phillips (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) along with junior defender Emily Eline (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) participated in their final game for Shorewomen Field Hockey.  Eline is leaving a year early to attend pharmacy school.
