Porter Powers F&M Past Shoremen, 74-57

Weston Scores 14 Points in Loss for Shoremen

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Matt Porter poured in 30 points to lead the host Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team to a 74-57 Centennial Conference win over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Lancaster, Pa.  The Diplomats improved to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-16 and 4-10 with the loss.

F&M led by as many as seven points in the first half and took a 30-25 lead into the intermission. The Diplomats opened the second half by scoring six of the first seven points to extend the lead to 36-26 on a Porter lay-up with 17:46 to play. F&M went on to lead by as many as 22 points late in the game. 

Porter shot 14-for-21 from the field and 2-for-3 at the foul line en route to his 30 points. Lior Levy was the only other Diplomat to reach double figures in scoring, chipping in 10 points off the bench. Jon Salandra had a strong all-around game for F&M, scoring nine points, collecting six rebounds, dishing out a game-high eight assists, swiping a game-best four steals, and blocking three shots.

Junior guard John Weston (Tampa, Fla./Bolles School) paced the Shoremen with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 shooting at the free-throw line. Senior forward Tony Hawkins (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Haddon Township) added nine points, nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with an 8:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
