Box Score Libera, Stocksdale Score in Win
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Senior midfielder Bob Libera (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) and senior defender Zach Stocksdale (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) each scored one goal as host Washington College blanked visiting Goucher, 2-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shoremen improved to 3-1 with the win, while the Gophers fell to 2-2 with the loss.
Libera broke a scoreless tie when he headed in a ball off a double assist from sophomore midfielder Dimitri Kaliakin (Landenberg, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) and senior defender Adam Smith (Laytonsville, Md./Colonel Magruder) at 43:59. The assist for Smith was his first collegiate point and came on the Shoremen's only shot on goal of the first half.
Stocksdale added Washington's insurance goal on a free kick from 60 yard outs at 71:16. It was the first goal and first points of his collegiate career.
Goucher held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots in the game. Each team recorded five corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Jon Wendeborn (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made two saves in the first half for the Shoremen, while senior goalkeeper Lin Robinson (York, Pa./York Country Day) made three in the second half. Nicholas Stolarz made three saves for Goucher.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with an 8:00 p.m. game at Albright.
