Barry Breaks Shutout Record in Scoreless Draw with Scarlet Raptors

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Barry (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) recorded her school record-breaking eighth career shutout as the host Washington College women's soccer team played to a double-overtime scoreless draw with visiting Rutgers-Camden in non-conference action this afternoon in Chestertown.

Rutgers-Camden (2-4-1) managed 13 shots in regulation to the Shorewomen's (2-2-1) five and had two shots in the first overtime. Neither team managed a shot during the second overtime period. The Scarlet Raptors appeared to have won the game on a header by Laura Rathof midway through the second overtime period, but Rutgers-Camden was called for a handball and the goal was waved off.

Barry made five saves en route to her record shutout, breaking the former career record of seven set by  Tori Ripple from 2008-2011.

Katie Gurba made three saves for Rutgers-Camden, which also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks in the game. Lauren Celona took a game-high four shots for the Scarlet Raptors. Sophomore forward Ashley Shortt (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) tallied two of Washington's five shots.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 4:00 p.m. home game against ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins.
