#24 Blue Jays Drop Shoremen, 88-73

Drury Scores 21 Points, Hands Out Six Assists in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, Md. --  Austin Vasiliadis supplied 24th-ranked Johns Hopkins University with 16 points and 11 assists as the Blue Jays defeated host Washington College, 88-73, in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game tonight inside Cain Athletic Center. 

The Blue Jays (14-2 overall, 8-1 Centennial) held a 30-24 lead before George Bugarinovic started a half-ending 12-1 run for the Blue Jays when he scored on a lay-up with 3:09 to go in the first period. A three-pointer by Vasiliadis with seven seconds left before the intermission gave Hopkins a 42-25 cushion at halftime. 

A Jimmy Hammer three-pointer with 15:55 remaining in the second half gave the Blue Jays their largest lead of the game at 57-32. Hopkins led by at least 14 points the rest of the way.

Vasiliadis had an incredibly efficient night for the Blue Jays, scoring his 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range, and 6-for-6 shooting at the foul line. He also turned the ball over just twice against his 11 assists. Bugarinovic shot 9-for-14 from the floor en route to a 19-point, eight-rebound performance, while Ryan Curran was 7-for-9 from the field on the way to his 17 points and nine boards. Hammer chipped in 15 points for Hopkins, knocking down all three of his three-point field goal attempts. 

Sophomore guard James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) scored a game-high 21 points, dished out a career-best six assists, and swiped a career-high three steals in the loss for Washington (2-14, 2-7), shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range. Junior forward Dave Knox (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) added 19 points, shooting a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line, while junior forward Pat Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) netted 12 points for Washington.

The Blue Jays shot 30-for-54 (55.6%) from the field for the game on the strength of 27-for-40 (67.5%) shooting by their starting five. Hopkins also shot 7-for-11 from three-point range in the contest. The Shoremen shot 42.3% from the field overall in the game, but 50% from three-point range. 

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Gettysburg.
