Bullets Defend Home Court Against Shoremen, 83-67

Flanigan Scores 15 in Loss for Shoremen

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --  Host Gettysburg College improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in Centennial Conference play with an 83-67 win over visiting Washington College in men's basketball action this afternoon. The Shoremen dropped to 2-15 and 2-8 with the loss. 

The Bullets scored 11 of the final 15 points of the first half to take a 34-27 lead into the intermission, holding the Shoremen to 7-for-27 shooting from the field in the opening period. 

Gettysburg led, 50-40, with under 13 minutes left in the second half before six straight points by the Shoremen cut the lead to 50-46 on a lay-up by freshman guard Tas Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Harriton) with 11:36 to go. Gettysburg answered with a 14-3 run to build a 64-49 cushion on a Pete Christ lay-up with 7:48 remaining. Washington would not get closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Christ led all scorers with 22 points and also pulled down eight rebounds. All five Gettysburg starters scored in doubles figures. Kevin Gladstone netted 14 points and eight boards, Sean Gordon had 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists, Tanner Kirkpatrick scored 13 points, and Cody Kiefer finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Senior forward Sean Flanigan (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) led the Shoremen with 15 points off the bench, while junior forward Pat Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had 13 and sophomore guard James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) added 12. Junior forward Dave Knox (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.

Gettysburg shot 50.5% for the game to Washington's 35.5%. 

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
