Knox Ties For Game-High With 18 Points

Carlisle, Pa. – Host #5 Dickinson had five players score in double figures en route to a 97-56 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at the Kline Center on Saturday afternoon.   The Red Devils improve to 17-2 overall and 10-2 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen fall to 2-17 and 2-10 respectively.

The two teams were tied at 7-7 with 16:52 left in the first half following a three-pointer by WC junior forward Pat Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) before the Red Devils went on a 10-1 run to take a 17-8 lead with 14:06 left in the half on two Justus Melton free throws.  Dickinson took the lead for good at 10-7 with 16:39 left on a traditional three-point play by Ted Hinnenkamp.  After Morgan ended the run with his second three of the half, the hosts scored seven straight points to take a 24-11 lead with 10:07 to go on two free throws by Robert Picka.  The Red Devils would take a 52-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Red Devils lead fluctuated between 23 and 41 points as they outscored the Shoremen by a 45-30 margin.

Steve Collins scored 18 points to tie for game-high for the Red Devils and also had three blocked shots to lead all participants.  Hinnenkamp had 14 points, Brandon Angradi and Gerry Wixted had 12 points each with Angradi having a game-topping three steals, while Picka added 11 points.  Melton had 10 rebounds to lead all players and just missed a double-double with nine points, while handing out five assists to lead all players.  Dickinson shot 56% from the floor (35-for-63), 42% from three-point range (8-for-19) and 66% from the foul line (19-for-29).  The Red Devils outrebounded the Shoremen 45-31 and committed only 10 turnovers, while forcing 17 by the visitors.

For the Shoremen, junior forward Dave Knox (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) had 18 points to tie Collins for tops in the game to go along with a team-best eight rebounds, while Morgan notched 12 points.  Washington shot 32% from the floor (18-for-56), 39% from three-point land (5-for-13) and 56% from the free throw stripe (15-for-27). 

Dickinson outscored Washington in points in the paint (48-24), points off of turnovers (27-1), second chance points (10-2), transition points (8-2) and bench points (39-10). 

Washington is back in action on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host visiting McDaniel in conference action.
