#4 Diplomats Edge Shorewomen, 2-1, in Double Overtime

Box Score

Miller Scores in Loss for Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall survived a strong challenge from host Washington College in a 2-1 double-overtime Centennial Conference field hockey victory this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

Franklin & Marshall 2, Washington College 1 (2OT)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen had a great chance to get on the board in just the second minute of the game but a redirect by Michaela Conners off a blast from outside the circle by Elizabeth Davis just missed both the far post and the stick of teammate Allison Remenapp on the doorstep.
- F&M out-shot the Shorewomen, 7-0, the rest of the first half, but Sadie Robertson made four saves in the period to keep the Diplomats off the board.
- The second half was more of the same as F&M continued to dominate possession, save for an early shot on goal by Washington's Jordan Mitchell, as the Shorewomen's defense held firm.
- F&M finally broke through when Maria Guarisco made a nifty move through the middle of the circle and fired home a shot on the move with 10:30 left in the game. It was the Diplomats' 18th shot of the contest.
- The Shorewomen evened the score with 1:15 left as Guarisco was serving a yellow card when Jenn Miller redirected in a ball sent by Jordan Mitchell during a penalty corner. Remenapp played a short insert to Davis on the near side and the Diplomat defense followed. Davis was able to then send the ball across the circle to Mitchell to set up the scoring play.
- The Diplomats recorded three shots, two of them on goal, and four penalty corners in the first overtime.
- Sydney Cole scored the game-winner in the second overtime, stealing a clearing pass and deking Robertson before scoring with 13:02 on the clock. It was F&M's second shot of the period.
