Shorewomen Win Sixth Straight Over Gophers In Four Sets

Horan With A Career-Best 29 Digs, While Passing Out A Match-High 31 Assists

TOWSON, Md. – Visiting Washington College got a match-best 31 assists and a career-high 29 digs from sophomore setter Taylor Horan (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) as the visiting Shorewomen downed host Goucher, 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16), in a non-conference volleyball match on Thursday evening at Decker SRC.  The Shorewomen are now 9-5 on the year, while the Gophers fall to 6-9.

How It Happened
-Tied 11-11 in the first set, Washington won nine of the next 10 points to take a 20-12 lead.  Horan had eight assists and 10 digs in the opening set.
-The Shorewomen led 9-8 in the second set before the Gophers went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. 
-The Gophers won the final four points of the set to win 25-21.  A setting error by WC gave the hosts a 22-21 lead and a Kelly Budge kill.
-Washington scored the first seven points of the fourth and final set before Goucher went on a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 13-12.  However, the Shorewomen never let the Gophers tie the set and went on a 12-4 set and match closing run for the nine point win.  Freshman Kelsey McNaul ended the match with a service ace.

For The Shorewomen (9-5)
-Horan's 29 digs shatter her previous career-best of 17 digs which she got versus Kean on September 27, 2014 at Gettysburg.  It is her sixth double-double of the season.
-Freshman Kaitlyn Marino had 11 kills to lead the Shorewomen and tie for match-high, while notching 12 digs to set a personal best and to register her first career double-double.
-Senior Kristin Lee tallied her sixth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 11 digs.
-Sophomore Alaina Geissberger had a season-best 10 kills, which tied for her career-best, and had five blocks to lead all players.  Three of her five blocks were solo rejections.  The three solo blocks are a personal-best for the sophomore.
-Sophomore Sarah Bentley totaled a career-best 14 digs, while junior Audrey Utchen had 13 digs.
-Washington hit .132 in the victory.

For Goucher (6-9)
-Budge had 11 kills to tie for tops in the match, and tied Meredith Johnson with a squad-high 22 digs to record a double-double.
-Michelle Tweedie had 11 kills to tie Budge and Marino for tops in the contest.
-Sarah Johnson joined Budge in having a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.  She also had three blocks to lead the hosts.
-Jess Jameyson had 10 digs for the Gophers.
-Hit .062 as a team.

Notes
-It was Washington's sixth straight victory over Goucher dating back to 2011.  The Gophers have not topped the Shorewomen since a four-set win in 2009.  The teams did not play in 2010.
-The Shorewomen lead the all-time series 23-17.

-Shorewomen are seeking their third straight home win over Gettysburg.  Washington topped the Bullets in a five-set thriller in 2012 and swept Gettysburg in 2013.
