Box Score Drury Scores 16 Points for Shoremen in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting McDaniel College never trailed after an 11-0 run in the first half and held off a late rally by host Washington College en route to a 62-56 Centennial Conference men's basketball win tonight inside Cain Athletic Center. The Green Terror's Tim Stewart eclipsed 1,000 career points during the game.

How It Happened
- Neither team led by more than three points in the early going, but the Green Terror went on an 11-0 run over a span of 6:12 to build a 23-13 lead following a Wes Brooks lay-up with 2:59 to go in the opening half.
- McDaniel went into halftime with a 29-22 lead, holding the Shoremen to 28% shooting from the field in the first half.
- A Brooks three-pointer with 17:16 left in the second half extended the Green Terror lead to 12 at 38-26. Washington answered with seven straight points to close to within five on a James Drury jumper with 14:00 to go, but McDaniel scored the next five to push the lead back to 10 at 43-33 on a Tim Stewart jumper with 12:10 remaining.
- McDaniel took its biggest lead at 52-36 on a Brooks jumper with 6:32 to play. The Shoremen later used a 9-0 run to get back within six points at 58-52 on a Drury jumper with 2:11 left.
- Kevin McCormick took a three-pointer for the Shoremen that could have sliced the lead down to three, but his shot was blocked by Cameron Royster and corralled by Brooks as the Green Terror called timeout with 1:05 showing.
- The Green Terror came up empty on the ensuing possession and Washington's Brandon Berry was fouled with 37 seconds to go. Berry made both free throws to draw the Shoremen back to within four points at 58-54.
- Brooks made a pair of free throws for McDaniel with 26 seconds remaining to push the lead back to six. Royster missed the front end of a one-and-one with 17 seconds to go and Drury countered with a lay-up on the other end to make it 60-56 with 6.9 seconds left. Brooks made two free throws with 6.1 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.
For the Shoremen (3-21, 1-16 Centennial Conference)
- Drury paced the Shoremen with 16 points and also handed out four assists. Dave Knox added 10 points and a team-best six rebounds.
- The Shoremen finished the game shooting 39.6% from the field, thanks to a 52.2% effort in the second half. Washington was 13-for-14 from the foul line.
For McDaniel (13-10, 10-7 Centennial Conference)
- Brooks led all scorers with 21 points and all players with eight rebounds. Stewart scored 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting to finish the game with 1,003 career points.
- McDaniel shot 60% from the field in second half and 53.3% for the game. The Green Terror held a 32-19 advantage on the boards.
- All but four of the Green Terror's points came in the paint, at the free-throw line, or from beyond the three-point arc.

- Stewart surpassed 1,000 career points with a jump hook 1:07 into the second half.
