Diplomats Use Balanced Attack To Take Down Shoremen, 84-72

Shelton tallies double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds

LANCASTER, Pa. — Host Franklin & Marshall got a game high 24 points from Hunter Eggers and had five players reach double figures in scoring en route to an 84-72 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game played tonight at the Mayser Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

How It Happened
- Alec Lewis hit a free throw to put the Shoremen ahead 1-0 just 37 seconds in, but the Diplomats responded with a 12-0 run, capped by a Ignas Slyka layup, to give F&M a 12-1 lead with 16:00 to play in the opening half.
- F&M held a 23-10 lead before Washington went on an 8-2 run, capped by a Tas Dixon layup, to cut the lead to 25-18 with 8:27 to go until halftime.
- The Diplomats took their largest lead of the half at 41-25 on a Brandon Federici three pointer with 3:12 to play in the opening half.
- James Drury banked in a three pointer at the halftime buzzer to cut the F&M lead to 43-33 at the halftime break.
- A Brandon Berry layup cut the lead to single digits at 53-45 with 13:47 to play, but the Diplomats countered with a quick 6-0 response to push the lead back to double digits at 59-45 with 11:58 to go following a layup from Jordan Phelps.
- The Shoremen responded with a 6-0 run of their own, capped by a Armand del Castillo layup, to once again cut the lead to single digits at 59-51 with 10:11 to go.
- F&M would then respond with an 8-2 run, capped by layup from Eggers, to give the Diplomats a 67-53 lead.
- The closest the Shoremen would get the rest of the way was 75-67 following a Joey Shelton layup, which capped a 10-2 run, with 1:48 to go.

For the Shoremen (5-9, 1-6 Centennial Conference)
- Shelton (17 points, 10 rebounds), Brandon Berry (11 points, three assists), Lewis (10 points), Dallas Marshall (game high three steals).
- The Shoremen shot 40.7% from the floor, 33.3% from beyond the arc, and 65.4% from the free throw line.
- Washington turned the ball over 12 times while forcing 14 F&M turnovers.
- The Shoremen outscored the Diplomats 49-15 in bench points.

For Franklin & Marshall (9-5, 3-4 Centennial Conference)
- Eggers (game high 24 points, five rebounds), J.C. McGrath (16 points, game high 11 rebounds, game high 6 blocks), Federici (11 points, 7 rebounds), Phelps (11 points), Slyka (10 points, 5 rebounds).
- The Diplomats shot 53.6% from the floor, 50% from beyond the arc, and 60.7% from the free throw line.
- F&M held a 44-28 advantage in points in the paint and held a 39-32 advantage on the glass.

Notes
- Shelton's double double tonight is the second of his career. His first came on January 16th, 2016, when he posted 20 points and 14 rebounds, also against Franklin & Marshall.
