Blue Jays Use Strong Shooting to Top Shoremen, 82-64

Porteous Scores 14 Points on 7-for-10 Shooting for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Johns Hopkins shot 65% from the field and 62% from three-point range on its way to an 82-64 win over host Washington College on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at the Cain Athletic Center.  The Blue Jays improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen drop to 3-5 and 0-3 respectively.

How It Happened
- Johns Hopkins, who never trailed in the game, took its first double digit lead with 12:46 left in the first half on a layup by Harry O'Neil
- The Shoremen trimmed the Blue Jays' lead to eight at 34-26 with 6:02 left in the first half on a layup by Austin Allen.
- Hopkins would answer with a 7-0 run to take its biggest lead of the first half of 15 points at 41-26 on a three-pointer by Michael Gardner with 4:13 remaining.
- The Blue Jays took a 47-33 lead into halftime as they shot 72% from the floor in the first 20 minutes.  The Shoremen shot 58% from the field in the opening half.
- In the second half, Washington got within 12 points on two occasions, the final time being with 9:17 to go on a basket by Josh Porteous that capped a run of six straight points by the hosts.
- The guests would push their lead to as many as 21 with 3:00 left on a Noah Ralby triple that gave the Blue Jays an 82-61 advantage.

For The Shoremen (3-5, 0-3 CC)
- Marshall (13 points and two steals), Lewis (season-best 10 points), Porteous (14 points on 7-for-10 shooting), Allen (two steals), Daniel Brown (four rebounds)
- The Shoremen shot 49% (25-for-51) from the floor, 22% (2-for-9) from three-point range and 57% (12-for-21) from the foul line. 
- Washington outscored the Blue Jays in points in the paint (36-34) and second chance points (4-2).
- The Shoremen had just 12 turnovers.

For Johns Hopkins (6-2, 3-0 CC)
- Daniel Vila (14 points and two steals), Joey Kern (14 points), Braeden Johnson (13 points and game-high five boards), Conner Delaney (10 points and game-best eight assists), Gardner (10 points)
- The Blue Jays shot 65% (30-for-46) from the floor, 62% (13-for-21) from three-point range and 75% (9-for-12) from the free throw stripe.    
- Hopkins outscored 11-10 in points off of turnovers, 11-0 in transition points and 32-21 in bench points while holding a 30-18 edge in rebounds.
- The Blue Jays had 17 turnovers in the contest.

Notes
- Marshall was named the Chestertown McDonald's Shoremen Player of the Game on the Goose Nation TV webcast of the game.
