Box Score Brandt Scores For Washington and McGowan Tallies a Defensive Save for Shorewomen
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg's Julia Soares scored both goals for the hosts, including the game-winning goal with 9:37 left in the second half in a 2-1 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. The winning score came less than a minute after the Shorewomen had tied the game as all three goals in the game were scored in a 2:36 stretch of the second half. The Bullets improve to 4-1 on the year, while the Shorewomen drop to 0-5 as it was the conference opener for both squads.

How It Happened
- In the first half, each team tallied a defensive save. Grace Torrance of Gettysburg had a defensive save of a Nicole Schroyer shot 15:24 into the game. Washington's Abigail McGowan returned the favor 1:27 later when she turned away a Soares shot.
- The game remained scoreless until Julia Soares put the Bullets ahead at the 57:47 mark when her shot found the right side of the cage on a feed from Emma Bertando.
- Washington leveled the game just 1:48 later when Kailyn Brandt grabbed the ball on the left side of the circle and placed her shot into the lower right side of the cage to make it a 1-1 game.
- Just 48 ticks after Brandt's goal, the Bullets capitalized on a penalty corner to take a 2-1 lead as Soares scored from the middle of the circle after she received a pass from Torrance.
- The Shorewomen's last shot came with 4:22 left when Brandt's attempt was blocked by the Bullets. WC got the ball into the circle in the final minute, but could not muster a shot attempt.
