Washington Sweeps St. Mary's (Md.) and Downs Hood in Four Sets

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team won two matches against fellow Maryland colleges on Saturday on Ed Cole Court.  In the first match of the day, Washington swept host St. Mary's (Md.), 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 28-26), for its win over St. Mary's in 15 years before topping Hood, 3-1 (25-9, 25-14, 18-25, 25-18) in the second contest.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen won the final three points to break a 22-22 tie to win by three with an attack error by the Seahawks clinching the first set. 
- In the second set with the score knotted at 15-15, Washington won 10 of the last 14 points to come away with the 25-19 win.  Jenna Daunoras notched a solo block to end the second.
- St. Mary's led 24-17 in the third set following a kill by Kyra Feinaeur before the Shorewomen ended the match with an 11-2 run.  WC won eight straight points to take a 25-24 lead on a Laura Cochrane kill.  Tied at 26-26, Cochrane tallied a finisher to make it 27-26 and the Shorewomen sealed it with Maggie Pietrucha recording the kill.

For The Shorewomen (3-6)
- Abby Smith (11 kills), Lauren Zedlar (15 assists and 14 digs), Abby Hilty (12 digs and three aces), Jensyn Hartzell (10 assists and three aces), Daunoras (four blocks) 
- Team hit .204 in the contest, notched six rejections and served up 10 aces.

For St. Mary's (Md.) (3-7)
- Chanel Lucas (contest-best 12 kills), Fatima Bouzad (16 assists to lead all participants), Katie Agate (12 assists), Erin Krauss (three blocks), Ashley Welch (three aces), Nicole Kreutzinger (10 digs).
- The Seahawks hit .149 in the contest, had four blocks and eight aces.

Washington College 3 Hood 1 (25-9, 25-14, 18-25, 25-18)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen won the last six points of the first set to win by 16 as a hitting error by the Blazers ended the set.
- Leading 17-11 in the second set, Washington won eight of the final 12 points to win by 11 with a service miscue by Hood ending the set.
- In the third set, the Blazers won five of the last six points to turn a 20-17 lead into a 25-18 win as a bad set by the Shorewomen ended the third.
- Trailing 8-6 in the fourth, WC used a 6-1 to take a 12-9 lead on a Hilty service ace and won the set and contest on a Kylie Peets kill. 

For The Shorewomen (4-6)
- Cochrane (career-best 10 kills), Smith (12 digs), Daunoras (six blocks), Zedlar (16 assists), Hartzell (personal-high six aces)
- Washington had 16 aces and nine blocks as the team hit .107.

For Hood (0-9)
- Tailyn Kite (10 kills), Robyn Reus (26 digs), Carmella Fouts (three aces), Shane Simms and Shannon Saghy (three blocks), Kameron Williams and Ashley Williams (nine assists)
- Blazers hit -.040 while notching eight aces and six blocks.

Notes
- It was the Shorewomen's first win over the Seahawks since a 3-0 win on October 1, 2004 at home.
- Washington has now downed Hood 25 times, the most against a single opponent in program history.
