Box Score Carlisle, Pa. - - -The Washington College Shoremen secured the final Centennial Conference playoff berth with a 59-57 road victory over the Dickinson Red Devils on Saturday afternoon. The Shoremen (10-15, 8-10 Centennial) earned the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4 Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Senior Alec Lewis hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining to break a 57-57 deadlock. Classmate Dallas Marshall became the 36th men's member of the 1,000 Point Club at the College.
How it Happened
- The Shoremen trailed 7-6 early in the contest but went on a 9-0 run to claim a 15-7 advantage at the 12:01 mark.
- The hosts closed to within 19-14 after a layup by Chris Bates but Marshall drained a triple from the left wing to re-store a 22-14 advantage with 4:30 left in the half.
- Washington took their largest lead at 30-18 after Daniel Brown scored on a driving layup and hit one of two from the line on the next trip down.
- The Shoremen settled for a 30-21 halftime advantage.
- Dickinson closed to 30-24 at the 19:22 mark of the second half but Washington went on a 6-2 mini-run to grab a 36-26 lead at the 17:25 mark. Lewis swished a trey and Brown added a conventional 3-point play to account for the points.
- The visitors widened their lead to 40-29 after back-to-back buckets from Logan Bunch with 15:14 left.
- Washington still held a 50-40 lead midway through the final stanza, but the hosts rattled off 10 straight point to knot the score. Marshall re-stored the lead with a layup, but Travis Dobbins hit a straight away trifecta to put the Red Devils out in front 53-52 at the 7:38 mark.
- The Shoremen hit 3-of-4 from the line to grab a 55-53 lead but Dickinson scored four straight points to take their final lead at 57-55 with just over three minutes left.
- Tray Wright made a driving layup to even the game with 1:48 on the clock.
- Lewis then converted a pair of clutch free throws for the final points of the contest.
- A long three-point try by the Red Devils was off the mark as time expired
For the Shoremen
- Wright paced Washington with 12 pointson 5-of-10 shooting. Brown contributed 10 points and added a team-best seven rebounds.
- The Shoremen went 19-of-57 overall (33.3 percent), hit 4-of-17 from deep (23.5 percent) and were 17-for-22 (77.3 percent) from the line.
For the Red Devils
- Dan Conlan scored a game-high 16 points as the guard went 4-for-7 from behind the arc. K.J. Holton and Bryce Allen each added 11 points.
- The hosts went 24-of-57 from the floor (42.3 percent), hit 6-of-25 from behind the arc (24.0 percent) and made just 3-of-5 free throws (60 percent).
