Box Score Chestertown, MD - The host Washington College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision against the Gettysburg Bullets, in a Centennial Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Roy Kirby Jr., Stadium. The Shorewomen fall to 5-8 (1-5 C.C.) while the visitors improve to 7-5 (3-3 C.C.)
How It Happened
- Neither team recorded a shot on goal in the opening quarter of the contest and there were no penalty corners.
- Gettyburg went out in front for good 2:48 into the second quarter following a penalty corner. Senior midfielder Emma Bertrando scored the first of her two goals as she beat Shorewomen sophomore goalie Sasha Dennis after receiving a feed from junior midfielder Jenna Vadinsky. Bertrando collected the pass just inside the left circle and fired a long shot into the lower left-corner of the cage.
- The visitors extended their lead to 2-0 with 8:53 left in the third quarter as Bertrando beat a defender and put in a low shot into just inside the right post. The play resulted after another penalty corner.
- Washington College closed within 2-1 on freshman Cat Esposito's team-leading 10th marker of the season with 3:45 left in the third quarter. Sophomore midfielder Kate Gromacki started the play as she fired a shot on net that was turned away by Gettysburg goalie Audrey Ross. The ball then trickled back to a wide-open Esposito following the initial save. Esposito deposited the winner into the lower right-corner as Ross was still on the ground.
- The Bullets scored an insurance goal less than a minute into the fourth quarter for the final tally of the contest. Bertrando corralled a penalty corner and then crossed the ball to a wide-open Vadinsky on the left-side of the circle. Vadinsky then fired a high shot over the glove of Dennis and into the back of the net.
