Box Score 2 Hartzell and Zedlar Tally Double-Doubles Against Ursinus
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team dropped two home matches on Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium. In the first match of the day, a Centennial Conference match, Ursinus downed Washington, 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20), and in the final match of the afternoon Gallaudet topped Washington, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14). The Shorewomen are now 6-7 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Centennial.
Ursinus 3 Washington College 1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20)
How It Happened
- In the first set, WC led 23-19 following a service error by Ursinus before the visitors rallied with a 7-1 run to win the set. After the Bears tied it at 23-23 on a Haley Spotts kill, Lindsay Saddic answered for the Shorewomen to make it 24-23. Spotts would tie it at 24-24 on a finisher and an attack error by the Shorewomen gave the Bears a 25-24 lead. Gabby McGinn finished the set with a kill to give Ursinus the win.
- Tied at 18-18 in the second set, Angelina Schaber put the hosts ahead for the rest of the set with a kill to make it 19-18. Schaber would provide the final point on a kill to level the match.
- Down 15-13 in the third set, the Bears rallied to win the set with a 12-4 run. McGinn put Ursinus ahead to stay on a kill to make it 17-16 and Caroline Sherman capped a run of five straight points for the guests with a set-closing kill.
- Leading 19-17 in the fourth and final set, Ursinus won six of the final eight points to win the contest. Katie Cressman provided the final point with a kill.
For The Shorewomen (6-6, 0-2 CC)
- Courtney Maxwell (match-high 17 kills), Jenna Daunoras (match-high five blocks), Lauren Zedlar (20 assists and 12 digs), Jordan Fairchild (10 digs and three aces), Jensyn Hartzell (13 assists and 10 digs)
- Team hit .113 in the contest, notched seven rejections and served up eight aces.
For Ursinus (4-6, 1-1 CC)
- Cressman (16 kills and 10 digs), McGinn (13 kills, 11 digs and five aces), Rachel Bernard (42 assists and four aces), Spotts (10 kills), Megan Aube (12 digs and four aces), Luca Walborn (10 digs)
- The Bears hit .171 in the contest, had five blocks and 13 aces.
Gallaudet 3 Washington College 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14)
How It Happened
- Leading 18-17, the Bison won seven of the final 10 points to win the first set by five. Karita Lewis finished the set with a kill.
- Knotted at 11-11 in the second set, Gallaudet won five straight points to take a 16-11 lead on a kill by Emily Wright.
- The guests raced out to an 18-3 in the third and final set on an ace by Ashlene Etkie. Gallaudet finished the match with a kill by Elina Rubinshteyn.
For The Shorewomen (6-7)
- Riley McHugh (match-best five blocks), Fairchild (three aces), Hartzell and Zedlar (11 assists), Maxwell and Schaber (seven kills)
- Washington had seven aces and seven blocks as the team hit .-030.
For Gallaudet (9-10)
- Wright (10 kills), Emma Guintoli (21 assists and three aces), Lewis (11 digs), Mia Upchurch (13 digs), Etkie (three aces), Anya Pothorski (four blocks)
- The Bison hit .183 while notching nine aces and six blocks.
Notes
- Maxwell was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match against Ursinus.
- In the middle match, Gallaudet bested Ursinus, 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20).
