Field Hockey Defeated by Dickinson in Season Finale, 5-1

Box Score

Carlisle, PA – The Washington College field hockey team was defeated by the Dickinson Red Devils, 5-1, in the season-finale for the Shorewomen on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field. Washington College finishes with a record of 6-11 (2-8 C.C.) while the Red Devils improve to 8-9 (7-3 C.C).

How It Happened
- Dickinson got on the board 8:21 into the first quarter on a tally by senior forward Bridget Fontaine from the left side of the circle near the end line. Washington College sophomore goalkeeper Ava Rivera vacated her position and Fontaine was able to sneak a low shot around her and into the far corner of the cage.
- The Red Devils went up 2-0 with 4:48 left in the second quarter as sophomore forward Grace Donovan scored soon after a Shorewomen turnover on their end of the field. Freshman midfielder Katie Marthins received a feed in the center of the circle and dropped the ball off for Donovan, who was free along the left-post. Donovan controlled the pass and was able to stuff a winner into the lower-left corner as Rivera was trying to get back into the cage.
- Washington College sliced its deficit in half just before halftime as they were able to score following a penalty corner with 1:21 left. Senior midfielder Madison Parker had her initial shot blocked by a defender but she was able to re-gain control of the ball and find freshman forward Kat Esposito all alone along the right-side of the goal mouth. Heap then pushed the feed into the back of the net.
- The hosts extended their lead to 3-1 just over five minutes into the third quarter following a turnover by the Shorewomen. Freshman forward Hailey Womer delivered a centering pass to sophomore forward Abby Marthins, who was wide open inside the circle. Rivera, standing seven yards outside of the cage, slipped to the ground and was unable to break up the play that resulted in an open-net tally for Marthins.
- Dickinson made it 4-1 with just over seven minutes remaining as they scored just after a penalty corner. Senior defender Hannah Spiri took the feed from senior defender Ellie Werner and beat Rivera with a hard shot from the right-side of the circle.
- The Red Devils completed the scoring with 2:20 remaining on a goal by freshman forward Emma Snyder off an assist by senior attacker Tara Hausker.
