Shorewomen Down Golden Wolves in Four Sets

Maxwell Notches Double-Double of 15 Kills and 10 Digs

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball came away with a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 27-25, 25-13) win over visiting Alvernia on Thursday night at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.  The Shorewomen are now 8-7 overall on the season, while the Golden Wolves are 7-10.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen won the first four points and coasted in the first set to a 12-point as they clinched opening set on a service error by the Golden Wolves.
- In the second set, Alvernia won the final two points to prevail by two.  An attack error gave the Golden Wolves a 24-23 lead and a Molly Gaffney kill won the set.    
- The Shorewomen led 19-11 in the third set before the Golden Wolves rallied with a 14-5 run to take a 25-24 on a service ace by Olivia Frutiger.  However the Shorewomen answered with three straight points to take the set.  Angelina Schaber put the hosts ahead 26-25 on a kill and Courtney Maxwell notched a kill to secure the set.
- Washington never trailed in the fourth set on its way to a 12-point victory as Colette Franck ended the match with a kill.

For The Shorewomen (8-7)
- Maxwell (match-high 15 kills; 10 digs), Schaber (12 kills and hit .391), Franck (10 digs), Lauren Zedlar (13 assists and 13 digs), Jordan Fairchild (16 digs and four aces to lead all players), Jensyn Hartzell (26 assists and 10 digs), Lindsay Saddic (eight blocks to set personal-best), Jenna Daunoras (seven blocks) 
- Team hit .224 in the contest, notched 11 rejections and served up 13 aces.

For Alvernia (7-10)
- Frutiger (six kills), Rachel Sipling (seven aces for match-high and seven blocks), Gaffney and Alexis Schwenk (10 assists), Gabrielle DeLucca (13 digs), Taylor Suto (12 digs)
- The Golden Wolves hit .000 in the contest, had eight blocks and 14 aces.

Notes
- Maxwell was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match.
- This match was originally scheduled for September 1, but was postponed due to Ida.
