Shorewomen Tally Two Wins in Home Tri-Match over Gators and Seahawks

Team Serves Up 27 Aces on the Afternoon

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team won a pair of home matches on Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in non-conference volleyball action.  In the first match of the day, Washington edged St. Mary's (Md.), 3-2 (25-19, 14-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-13), and in the second match of the afternoon Washington swept Notre Dame (Md.) 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23).  The Shorewomen are now 3-4 on the season.

How It Happened
- In the first set, WC won nine of the final 12 points to snap a 16-16 tie.  Jenna Daunoras ended the set with a kill. 
- The Seahawks notched 10 service aces in the second set on their way to an 11-point win.  An attack error by the Shorewomen ended the set.
- Washington jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the third set following an attack miscue by St. Mary's as they won 10 points.  A hitting error by the guests ended the set.
- Tied at 23-23 in the fourth set, the Seahawks won the last two points to force the fifth set.  A service error by the Shorewomen made it 24-23 for the guests and an attack error ended the set.
- Even at 13-13 in the fifth and final set, the Shorewomen won the last two points to win the match.  Angelina Schaber made it 14-13 on a kill and Sylvia Johnson finished the contest and a kill.

For The Shorewomen (3-4)
- Jenna Daunoras (10 kills and hit .556), Courtney Maxwell (16 kills and three aces), Lauren Zedlar (21 assists and 11 digs), Jordan Fairchild (16 digs and seven aces), Jensyn Hartzell (19 assists and four aces) 
- Team hit .228 in the contest, notched four rejections and served up 16 aces.

For St. Mary's (Md.) (2-5)
- Taylor Wigglesworth (13 kills and 12 digs), Chanel Lucas (12 kills, five aces and four blocks), Kyra Feinaeur (16 kills), Nicole Gibson (35 assists, 11 digs and four aces), Nancy Slaughter (four aces)
- The Seahawks hit .163 in the contest, had seven blocks and 14 aces.

How It Happened
- With the two teams knotted at 19-19 in the first set, Washington won six of the final nine points to win by three.  A Daunoras finisher clinched the opening set for the hosts.
- WC won win 10 of the final 12 points of the second set to break a 15-15 tie.  A Hartzell kill put WC ahead for the rest of the set at 16-15 and an attack error by the Gators would clinch the set for the Shorewomen.
- The hosts rallied from an 18-13 deficit in the third and final set to win the set and match.  Johnson would cap a 7-0 run with a kill to put WC ahead 20-18.  With the score level at 23-23, a Maxwell kill put WC ahead 24-23 and Fairchild netted an ace to end the contest.

For The Shorewomen (3-5)
- Schaber (10 kills), Fairchild (14 digs), Maxwell (10 digs and three aces), Hartzell and Zedlar (15 assists), Daunoras (three blocks)
- Washington had 11 aces and five blocks as the team hit .206.

For Notre Dame (Md.) (3-4)
- Natalie Newton (seven kills), Paulina Hernandez (10 digs and three aces), Jade Stewart (10 digs)
- The Gators hit .058 while notching six aces and a single block.

Notes
- Maxwell was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match against St. Mary's (Md.) and Schaber was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the match versus Notre Dame (Md.).
- In the middle match, Notre Dame swept St. Mary's 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-21).
