O'Reilly & Chatfield Lead Women's Soccer to a 2-0 Shutout Over Hood

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. –The Washington College women's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 after blanking the Hood Blazers (0-2-0) on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium on Monday afternoon. Senior forward Erin O'Reilly scored both goals and junior defender Rachel Chatfield assisted on both markers.

Washington College 2, Hood 0

How It Happened
- In the 11th minute, Chatfield lofted a gorgeous free-kick from 30-yards out into the box and O'Reilly made a run and was able to head it into the lower right corner of the net past the diving Hood goalkeeper Brenna Ellenberger.
- The same combination struck again less than three minutes into the second half as the result of another sensational free kick by Chatfield. This time, Chatfield booted a 50-yard strike from the sideline that found the head of sophomore midfielder Ellen Daly at the 20-yard line. Daly, who also was awarded an assist on the play, headed the ball backwards towards the net. O'Reilly was able to beat a defender and tapped the bouncing ball past the flatfooted keeper, who was injured on the play and left the game.
- Washington College controlled most of the play and outshot the visitors by a 16-4 margin. Hood had very few quality chances on net as the defense was steady for all 90 minutes. Senior netminder Noah Smith did not face a shot on goal.

For the Shorewomen (2-0-0)
- Scoring: O'Reilly (2 goals), Chatfield (2 assists), Daly (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Smith (90:00)
- Washington had eight corner kicks and did not allow a single attempt by the Blazers.

For the Blazers (0-2-0)

- Goalkeeper: Brenna Ellenberger (2 goals allowed, 2 saves, 47:32), Gabi Dolan (four saves, 42:28)

Notes
- Chattfield was named the Goose Nation TV Player of the Game
- O'Reilly has produced the game-winning tally in both games this season and leads the squad with three markers.
- Daly has recorded an assist in each game.
- The Shorewomen will look to start out 3-0 for the second straight season after accomplishing that feat in 2019. The squad did not have a competitive season in 2020 despite playing a few exhibition games.
