Shorewomen Score Most Ever Goals Versus Bullets in Pull Away 6-2 Win

Esposito and Sterling Score Twice

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Visiting Washington College took a 3-0 lead in the third quarter and after host Gettysburg scored twice to cut the lead to 3-2 early in the fourth quarter, the guests scored the last three goals to record a 6-2 win in a Centennial Conference field hockey game on Saturday afternoon on Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.  The Shorewomen, who scored the most goals in a game against the Bullets in the win, are now to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial, while the Bullets fall to 2-11 and 0-6 respectively.

How It Happened
- Kat Esposito put Washington ahead 1-0 with 2:13 to go in the first quarter when she dribbled down the right side and her shot from the baseline found its way in and that would be the score entering the second quarter.
- The Shorewomen made it 2-0 with 1:19 left in the second when Esposito scored off of a rebound and it would be a two-goal lead for the guests at halftime.
- Washington made it a three-goal lead 4:48 into the third quarter when on a counter, Esposito crossed it over to Julianna Sterling on the left side and Sterling put the shot into the left side of the goal.
- Gettysburg got onto the board with 1:42 left in the third when Jenna Vadinsky converted a penalty stroke into the left side of the cage to trim the lead to 3-1.
- In the fourth, the Bullets cut the lead to 3-2 with 12:55 to go in the game as Morgan Cherry redirected a pass from the top by Andie Aloi.
- Just 24 seconds later, Jillian Brejnik would cut through the Gettysburg defense and scored from eight yards out to give the Shorewomen a 4-2 lead.
- Sterling gave WC its three-goal lead back with 5:03 left as she tipped home a pass from Anna Harrington at the left post.  
- Kendal Thomson rounded out the scoring with 56 seconds to go on a shot from the top of the circle after receiving a pass from Kyra Heap.

- Scorers: Esposito (two goals and assist), Sterling (two goals), Brejnik and Thomson (goal), Schatt (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Ava Rivera (4 saves, 2 goals allowed, 60:00)
- Washington had 14 shots and seven penalty corners in the contest.

For Gettysburg (2-11, 0-6 CC)
- Scorers: Cherry (goal), Vadinsky (goal), Aloi (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Emilia Saccento (6 saves, 6 goals allowed, 60:00)
- The Bullets had seven shots and 10 penalty corners in the game.

Notes
- The prior high for goals in a game against Gettysburg for WC was five in a 5-1 win in 2014, which was also the team's last road win in the series.
- It was Washington's first win over Gettysburg since a 3-2 double overtime win on September 16, 2017, when current assistant coach Emily Pantazes '19 scored the walk-off goal.
