Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College field hockey team opened the 2022 campaign in style as the Shorewomen blanked the Notre Dame (Md.) Gators, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
The Maroon & Black led 9-0 at halftime and never looked back in the season-opener for both squads.
Senior forward
Julianna Sterling (Salisbury, Md., James M. Bennett), junior forward
Alexis Tackney (Annapolis, Md., St. Mary's) and freshman midfielder
Jam Hutt-Robles (Princess Anne, Md., Washington) each scored a pair of goals.
How It Happened

Sterling stuffed in the only goal that the Shorewomen would need at the 5:08 mark of the opening quarter. Sophomore forward
Kat Esposito (Severna Park, Md., Severna Park), the reigning Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, was credited with an assist.
-Sterling collected a cross from the right corner by freshman midfielder
Brynn Balliet (Germansville, Pa., Northwestern Lehigh)and tapped in another winner just 21 seconds later to make it 2-0.

Tackney scored the first of her two first half goals as she capitalized after collecting a feed from the top of the circle by senior
Anna Harrington (Milton, Del., Cape Henlopen) at the 9:08 mark.
- A pair of freshmen, midfielder
Jules Weglarz (Bear, Del., Appoquinimink) and midfielder
Samantha McMahon (Bear, Del., Appoquinimink) rounded out the first period scoring with unassisted goals 17 seconds apart.
- Another freshman, Hutt-Robles, opened the scoring in the second quarter as she picked up the loose change in front of the net and stuffed in her second tally at the 16:52 mark. Tackney was credited with an assist.
-Tackney produced her second tally at 18:19 when she scored from point-blank range to make it 7-0.
- Hutt-Robles produced yet again as she followed up a rebound with an unassisted goal at the 20:52 mark.
-Senior midfielder
Jillian Brejnik (Virginia Beach, Va., Frank W. Cox)completed the scoring with 7:15 left in the second quarter as she tapped in a cross from senior midfielder
Marah Vain-Callahan (Pasadena, Md., Severn School).
