The Shoremen (1-0-2) fell behind 1-0 with 28:14 left in the opening half, however, the Maroon & Black scored three unanswered goals en route to the win. Washington outshot Eastern (0-3-0) by a 14-10 margin.
How It Happened
-The Eagles got on the board first as Evan Cope beat Washington College sophomore goalkeeper
Cole White (Seaford, Del., Sussex Academy) (6 saves) with a low shot into the left corner of the net from five yards out. Ryan James initiated the play by dribbling forty yards up the sideline before finding Aidan Link, who delivered a nice touch pass just outside the center of the box to Cope. Cope dribbled around a defender and unleashed the only marker of the day for the hosts.
-The Shoremen got even with just under 10 minutes left before intermission as the visitors scored on a free kick from just outside the top center of the box. Senior
Harrison Malone (Media, Pa., Episcopal Academy) delivered a one-hopper into the right side of the box and junior defender
Chris Comber (Chester Springs, Pa., Downingtown East) raced past a defender to head in the feed from five yards out past goalie Ty Bleiler.
-Senior
Eric Gwadz (Washington, D.C., Woodrow Wilson) set-up the game winner in the 57' as he delivered a gorgeous cross from the left side of the box over the back line to find a wide open Strine, who headed in the winning tally along the far post past the flat-footed Bleiler.
-Malone put the game away with less than a minute to go for the final marker. The midfielder came up with a steal at the thirty-yard line and dribbled into the left side of the box before firing a ten-yard winner inside the near post.
-Sophomore defender
Sebastien Linares (Reisterstown, Md., Loyola Blakefield) made the play of the game to save the day with two minutes left in the contest. Drew Johnson had a one-on-one opportunity with White but Linares sprinted in and made a sliding tackle before Johnson was able to fire off a shot.
-White, who was making his first career start, made a couple of spectacular saves, including an acrobatic diving stop to his right to thwart an attempt by Link with 37:37 left in the contest.
