Shorewomen Double up Mustangs in Home Opener, 14-7

Laubach Ties Career-Highs in Goals (4), Assists (3) and Points (7)

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored the game's first three goals and never trailed on its way to a 14-7 win over visiting Stevenson on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shorewomen are now 2-0 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-3.

How It Happened
- Ashley Devlin finished off a pass from Abby Laubach to give Washington a 3-0 lead with 7:22 to go in the first quarter.  Laubach factored into all three goals during the run with two assists and a score.
- The Mustangs answered with two to trim the lead to 3-2 after one quarter with Kellyann Coccia scoring with nine seconds to go in the first on make it a one goal contest.
- WC scored the first two goals of the second quarter to push its lead to 5-2 with 10:30 remaining on a Devlin score.  Each team would score one time the rest of the quarter as the Shorewomen took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
- In the third quarter, Washington outscored Stevenson, 4-1, to take a 10-4 lead after 45 minutes.  Ellie Bossi scored from Laubach with 1:23 left capped the scoring in the third.  Laubach scored the squad's first three goals of the stanza.
- Third Shorewomen would lead by as many as nine, 13-4, on a Mia Salvatierra score from Devlin with 9:03 left.
- Stevenson scored three of the last four goals to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (2-0)
- Scoring: Laubach (four goals, three assists and seven points to lead all players and tying her personal best in all three categories), Salvatierra (three goals, one assist), Devlin (two goals, two assists), Morgan Sutherland (two goals, one helper), Ellie Morral (two goals)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (50:22, five saves, four goals), Emily Markley (9:38, two saves, three goals)
- Morrall (game-high seven draw controls to match career-best), Devlin and Ciara Deemer (three ground balls)
- The Shorewomen held a 28-19 edge in shots.
- WC went 16-for-18 in clears, went 3-for-5 in free position shots and scooped up 17 ground balls.

For Stevenson (0-3)
- Scoring: Bailey Krahl (three goals and one assist), Coccia (three goals)
- In Goal: Sophie Shucosky (47:06, eight saves, 12 goals), Caitlyn Lane (7:15, one save, one goal), Anna Johnston (5:39, one save, one goal)
- Coccia and Kara Yarusso (four draw controls to lead team)
- The Mustangs went 10-for-16 in clears and had one more turnover than WC, 13-12.
- Stevenson went 2-for-3 in free position chances and totaled 11 ground balls as they held a 13-12 advantage in draws.

Notes
- Laubach was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game.
- Stevenson assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Taylor Blick was an assistant coach for Washington during the 2020 season.
- It was the second straight season Washington doubled up Stevenson, winning 16-8 last year.
- With her seven draws, Morrall moved up to 10th all-time at Washington with 112 in her career.  She passed Carly Eisenbrandt '14 (110) and Cecily Docktor '19 (111) in the game.
