Shorewomen Split Pair on First Day in Florida
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Washington College softball played game one of their 2023 Spring break trip against St. Scholastica on Sunday. It was a back-and-forth affair between the Shorewomen and Saints until the bottom of the fifth when a first-career homer by
Gracelyn Goforth sparked a three-run rally to give the Shorewomen a 6-4 lead. Both teams added a run in the sixth as
Bryn Balliet shut the door in the seventh to get the 7-5 win.

How It Happened
- The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Paniagua homered over the centerfield fence with a pair of baserunners on. The Shorewomen responded with a pair of runs driven in by
Alyssa Vieira in the bottom half to make it 3-2. A
Dee Rafaelli RBI in the third tied it up at three.
-The Saints re-took the lead and Paniagua delivered and RBI single to make it 4-3 in the fourth.
Gracelyn Goforth got things rolling for the Shorewomen in the fifth with a liner over the fence in left-center for her first homer as a Shorewoman. After a fielding mishap by the Saints brought in the leading run,
Jules Weglarz plated the third run in the inning with a sac-fly to make it 6-4.
-Both teams added on in the sixth as the Shorewomen took the 7-5 win.
For the Shorewomen
- Hitting:
Lexi Barnhart finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and run.
Gracelyn Goforth added two hits with a solo-homer and two runs scored.
Chloe Trefz had a pair of hits and run scored.
- Pitching:
Brynn Balliet picked up the win with 6.0 innings giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks.
For the Saints
- Hitting: Samantha Painagua finished 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBIs and run scored.
- Pitching: Haley Rosenthal took the loss with 5.2 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 13 hits and pair of walks.
GAME TWO: vs. Westminster (PA)
The second matchup of the day came against the Titans of Westminster. Playing as the home team, Westminster jumped out to a 2-0 in the bottom half of the first. The Shorewomen responed in the top half with a two-run shot by
Jenna Harper to put them up 3-2. The Titans replied in the bottom half with three of their own and never trailed again in a 9-4 win.

How it happened:
-Westminster jumped on Washington starter
Gen Kozub with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first. The Shorewomen responded to take a 3-2 lead in the second through a #8 homer.
-The Titans answered in the bottom half of the second with three of their own. They continued to add-on throughout the matchup with a run in every inning as they went on to a 9-4 win.
For the Shorewomen
Hitting:
Jenna Harper finished 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.
Alyssa Vieira and
Lilly Cook added two hits. Cook also walked twice and drove in a run.
Pitching:
Gen Kozub took the loss with four earned runs given up in 2.1 innings on six hits and two walks.
Emmie Meeks threw 3.2 innings in relief, giving up two earned on six hits.
For the Titans
Hitting: Ashley Wire finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Pitching: Elizabeth Malczak took the win with a complete game. She threw 7.0 innings, giving up four earned on seven hits and four walks.
