Eagles Use Big Third Quarter in 16-12 Win over Shorewomen

Laubach, Morrall and Sutherland Net Three Goals for Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Host Mary Washington outscored visiting Washington College 8-1 in the third quarter to turn 7-5 halftime deficit into a 13-8 lead after three on its way to a 16-12 win over Saturday afternoon at Battleground Turf in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.  The Eagles move to 6-3 on the season, while the Shorewomen drop to 4-3.

How It Happened
- Maya Koebke scored back-to-back goals to give Mary Washington a 3-1 lead with 8:02 left in the first quarter.
- Washington would answer with the final two of the first with two in 22 ticks to tie it at 3-3 with 7:29 to go in the stanza on an Ashley Devlin goal from Ellie Morrall.  Morall scored with 7:51 left to cut it to 3-2 and the two teams were even after one.
- Morgan Sutherland would give the Shorewomen their first lead of the day with 9:54 to go in the second.
- Tied at 5-5, Washington scored twice in the final 41 seconds of the second to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.  Mia Salvatierra scored from Devlin with 41 ticks left to give the visitors a one-goal lead and 26 seconds later Abby Laubach finished off a pass from Morrall to give WC a two-goal into the break.
- In the third quarter, Koebke began the eight-goal run for the Eagles on a free position to cut the lead to 7-6 with 13:35 to go in the third.  Kayla Sarazin would level the game, 7-7, with 12:26 remaining in the quarter and Katie Blair put Mary Washington ahead, 8-7, on a free position with 11:17 to go.  Blair would cap the eight-goal spurt with 4:23 to go in the third to push it to 13-7.
- Salvatierra would end the run with 27 seconds to go in the third on a pass from Devlin.  The Eagles led 13-8 after three.
- The Shorewomen netted the first two of the fourth to cut the lead to 13-10 with 12:04 left on an unassisted score by Laubach.
- Washington could draw no closer as Mary Washington scored three of the final five goals for the four-goal win.

For The Shorewomen (4-3)
- Scoring: Morrall (three goals and two assists), Devlin and Morgan Sutherland (three goals), Devlin (goal and two assists), Salvatierra (two goals)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (57:29, 10 saves, 16 goals allowed)
- Morrall (five caused turnovers to lead all players, team-best five draws and four ground balls)
- WC went 9-for-11 in clears, went 4-for-11 in free position shots and had 19 ground balls.
- The Shorewomen held a 34-32 advantage in shots and had five fewer turnovers than the Eagles, 14-9.

For Mary Washington (6-3)
- Scoring: Blair (game-bests of six goals and six points; six draw controls), Koebke (four goals and two caused turnovers), Sarazin (two goals and one assist), Clare Madden (one goal and two assists), Molly Daw (goal and helper)
- In Goal: Cailyn Tripp (60:00, 15 saves, 12 goals allowed)
- Sarazin (game-best seven draws and four ground balls)
- Mary Washington had 14 ground balls and held a 17-14 edge in draw controls.
- The Eagles went 9-for-12 in clears and went 3-for-4 in free position chances.
