Bears Capture Both Ends of Doubleheader from Shoremen, 8-2 and 9-3

SanFilippo Homers in Opener and Herz Goes Yard in Game Two

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Host Ursinus took both ends of a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against visiting Washington College.  The Bears won the opener 8-2 over the Shoremen and prevailed 9-3 in the second game.  The Bears improved to 13-19 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen are 11-20 and 1-9 respectively. 

Ursinus 8 Washington College 2 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- Ursinus took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Tom Snipes tripled to left-center with one out to score Jakob Cantor.
- Dylan Runsdorf doubled home Andrew Richter and Will Kelley with two away in the last of the fourth to make it 3-0.   
- Scooter SanFilippo got the Shoremen on the board in the top of the fifth with a one-out, two-run homer to left to also plate Nick Miller to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- In the last of the fifth, Ursinus got the two runs back as Solomon Griffith scored on an error to make it 4-2 with nobody out and the next hitter Snipes, hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Cantor to give the Bears a three-run edge.
- Kelley made it 7-2 with a two-run, nobody out triple to right-center to score both Richter and Thomas Pancheri.  The Bears added another run on a one out squeeze bunt by Cantor to score Kelley to make it 8-2 and complete the scoring.

For The Shoremen (11-19, 1-8 CC)
- Hitting: SanFilippo (2-for-4, home run, two RBI)
- Pitching: Anthony Sofran (loss 3-5, complete game, seven hits, eight runs, seven earned, three walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington had six hits and drew three walks, while leaving five on base.
- The Shoremen had three errors in the game, only leading to one run for Ursinus.

For Ursinus (12-19, 4-5 CC)
- Hitting: Kelley (2-for-4, two RBI, two runs), Runsdorf and Snipes (two RBI), Richter (two walks and two runs), Cantor (two runs)
- Pitching: Kieran Hollander (win 2-3, seven innings, five hits, two runs, two earned, two walks, 10 strikeouts), Matt Tuley (two innings, one hit, zero runs, one walk, three strikeouts)
- The Bears had seven hits, drew three walks, had two players get on via hit by pitch and left four on base.
- The hosts committed zero errors in game one.

Ursinus 9 Washington College 3 (Game 2)
How It Happened
- Runsdorf drove in two on a single to left with two away to drive in both Cantor and Peter Balos in the last of the first.
- Washington got a two-out run of its own in the top of the third when Logan Yi drove in Noah Iseman on a base hit to right to trim the lead to 2-1.
- In the last of the third, the Bears scored three two-out runs to take a 6-1 lead.  Runsford singled through the right side to drive home Balos to make it 4-1.  The next hitter Snipes singled to left to chase in Nick Diaz to push the advantage to 5-1 and Jordan Williams capped the frame with a base hit down down the right field line to allow Runsford to dent the dish and give the Bears a five-run cushion.
- Ursinus tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Griffith scored on a two-bagger with nobody out by Cantor to make it 6-1 and Cantor would come home on an error to give the hosts a 7-1 cushion.
- Washington scored in the top of the fifth and eighth frames and Ursinus scored in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to provide the final margin.

For The Shoremen (11-20, 1-9 CC)
- Hitting: Luke Herz (3-for-4, home run, RBI), Yi (2-for-5, RBI)
- Pitching: Izaiah Santiago (loss 3-5, three innings, nine hits, seven runs, seven earned, two walks and  two strikeouts), Jay Nesson (three innings, five hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, two strikeouts), Tyler Titus and John Grill (scoreless inning apiece)
- Washington had 12 hits, drew one walk and had two get on via hit by pitch, while leaving nine on base.
- The Shoremen had three errors in the game, leading to one Bears run.

For Ursinus (13-19, 5-5 CC)
- Hitting: Runsdorf (3-for-5, three RBI, two runs), Balos (3-for-4, two runs), Cantor (3-for-4, two RBI, two runs), Sniper (3-for-5, RBI), Williams (2-for-4, run), Griffith (two runs), Richter (two walks)
- Pitching: Casey Murphy (win 5-3, nine hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, seven strikeouts), Mike Scheller (one inning, one hit, one run, one earned, zero walks, one strikeout), David Kratz (one scoreless inning, two hits)
- The Bears notched 16 hits, drew a single walk and had two reach via hit by pitch as they left nine on base.
- The hosts had zero errors in game two.

Notes
- Herz hit his first career homer in the top of the eighth inning in game two.
