COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.– Washington College softball opened the Centennial Conference slate in style with a double header sweep at Ursinus. Game one went to the Shorewomen as they held off a Bears rally in the seventh to take a 7-5 win. Game two was all Washington as
Lexi Barnhart tossed a six-hit shutout to lead the Shorewomen to a 3-0 win.
Alyssa Vieira led the offense with six hits on the day including a three-RBI double in game one. Vieira also scored two of the three Shorewomen runs in game two.
GAME ONE: Washington 7 Ursinus 5
How it happened:
-The Shorewomen did most the damage in the second inning. With two runs already in,
Alyssa Vieira came up with the bases loaded and delivered. The senior stroked a double to clear the bags to push the lead to 5-0.
-Freshman pitcher
Brynn Balliet got the start and avoided trouble for most of the ball game. The offense kept supplying as Vieira drove in another in the fourth before
Jenna Harper doubled in one in the fifth to make it 7-1.
-The Bears battled back with three in the fifth. At 7-4 in the seventh, they loaded the bases against Balliet but the freshman was able to get out of the inning with only one run in to take game one.
For the Shorewomen
Batting:

Alyssa Vieira led the Shorewomen offense going 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Lexi Barnhart and
Jenna Harper each added two hits and a run scored with Harper driving in one.
Lexie Witmer added a double, Dee Rafaelli and
Chloe Trefz each added a hit with Trefz and
Gracelyn Goforth driving in a run.
Pitching:
Balliet took the win for her sixth of the season, working seven innings, giving up five runs from nine hits and three walks.
For Ursinus
Batting:
Stephanie Wichman finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Pitching:
Christa Andrusiewicz took the loss surrendering seven runs in 7.0 innings.
GAME TWO: Washington 3 Ursinus 0
How it happened:
- Washington jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single by
Lexie Witmer to score
Alyssa Vieira. Another run scored in the fourth from a Dee Rafaelli RBI grounder to make it 2-0.
-That first inning run would be all that
Lexi Barnhart would need as the junior hurled a complete game shutout. An insurance run was added by the Shorewomen in the sixth when
Alyssa Vieira scored on a passed ball.
For the Bears
Batting:
-Alexis Meakim finished 2-for-3 with a double.
Pitching:
-Allyson Miller took the loss surrendering two runs from 11 hits and a walk in 5.0 innings of work.
For the Shorewomen
Batting:
- Vieira finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Hannah Solge also finished 3-for-4.
Lexie Witmer,
Jenna Harper and
Gracelyn Goforth all added a pair of hits with Witmer driving in one.
Jules Weglarz and
Lexi Barnhart each added a hit. Dee Rafaelli added an RBI.
Pitching:
-Barnhart took the win surrendering six hits and a walk in 7.0 shutout innings.
