Shoremen Fall at McDaniel

Washington led twice early but unable to comeback after McDaniel took a three-run lead.

WESTMINSTER, Md.– Washington College baseball traveled to McDaniel for a Tuesday Centennial Conference matchup. The Shoremen took a lead in the second inning and then again in the fourth but a McDaniel rally in the bottom of the fourth put the Terror up for good in a 6-4 home win.

How it happened:
-The Shoremen took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Luke Herz reached via error and was knocked in by a Scooter SanFilippo RBI single. The Terror tied the game in the bottom of the second and then took the lead on a squeeze play.  

-Washington re-took the lead after a Herz RBI single and SanFilippo sacrifice fly to make it 3-2. McDaniel gained the lead a gain with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fourth.  

-McDaniel added an insurance run in the seventh to make 6-3. The Shoremen were able to scratch across a run in the ninth but could not get another baserunner to threaten the McDaniel lead as the game ended 6-4 in favor of the Terror.  

For the Shoremen
Batting: 
- Scooter SanFilippo finished 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Luke Herz and Elias Philiposian both added a hit and RBI for the Shoremen. 
-Logan Yi and Cole McGee added the other Shoremen hits. Noah Iseman, Yi, and Herz all scored for the Shoremen.  

Pitching: 
-Ashton Mehler took the loss, surrendering four earned runs from seven hits and a pair of walks in 6.0 inning of work. Mehler also struck out seven. 

For McDaniel
Batting: 
-Connor Uhrig finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Pitching:
-Remy Mangum picked up the win in relief of the starter Gannon Williams. Mangum threw 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two baserunners from a hit and a hit batter. 
 
Up Next: 4/28 – v. McDaniel - 3:30 p.m. at Athey Park. The Shoremen host McDaniel to complete the season series in the final home game of the 2023 season.
