CHESTERTOWN, Md.– Washington College baseball played host to the McDaniel Green Terror for the final contest of the 2023 season. It was a cloudy and rainy day at Athey Park as each tam traded leads throughout the first five innings. All square at five in the ninth, McDaniel loaded the bases and then cleared them through a Bill Wheatley double to give them the last lead in a 13-5 road win. Â

How it happened:
-McDaniel took 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Shoremen tied things up in the second after
Chase Ruppel rattled the fence with a double and then scored via error. The Shoremen took the lead in the third when Ruppel was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. McDaniel evened the contest up in the fourth after
Anthony Sofran was called for a balk with a runner on third.  Â
- McDaniel re-took the lead after capitalizing on a Shoremen error. An extended inning saw the Terror plate two and chase Sofran out of the game. Washington matched the two runs with RBIs from
Luke Herz and Ruppel to get Sofran off the hook for the loss.
Scooter SanFilippo then put the Shoremen on top 5-4 with a double to score Herz.Â

Izaiah Santiago came in to pitch for the Shoremen in the sixth. In the seventh, McDaniel would tie the game back up at five after a pair of two out walks kept the inning alive for Hunter Kelly RBI single.Â
-The Shoremen put runners on the corner with no out in the eight but had a runner thrown out at home before leaving the bases loaded. Santiago stayed in to pitch the ninth. A leadoff single and walk saw Santiago lifted for
Ashton Mehler. Another walk loaded the bases for the Terror with no outs. Billy Wheatley cleared the bases with a double to right and give McDaniel an 8-5 lead. The would score six more on the way to the win.Â
